Carlsbad Caverns (October 12th 2014) Carlsbad Cav.
Today we are on our way to see Carlsbad Caverns National Park in the Guadalupe Mountains of New Mexico. Our first stop on the way to the caverns was the George S. Pattom Memorial Museum at Chiriaco Summit off Highway 10 near Indio, both Mayra and I found it interesting and informative, I was surprised to see how interested Mom was about everthing on display at the museum. Next stop was Casa Grande in Coolidge, Arizona, also interesting, for me anyway. We spent the night at the LaQuinta inn inn Tucson AZ.

Mount Rushmore SD (August 12th 2014) Mt. Rushmore
Events as they unfolded in August. Celebrating our 42nd anniversary with a trip to South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. During our trip we got to visit Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devils Tower, Yellowstone and Mammoth Lakes in California, all beautiful and interesting places. Also interesting but sad chapters in American history are the other places we visited, the Wonded knee Museum, The Battle of Little Big Horn and the Manzanar war relocation Center. All in all we had a fun but not relaxing vacation. Next time we will go visit one place at a time. Also thank to Mark for an introduction to the El Dorado Park in Long Beach, a beautiful relaxing stroll through a densily treelined walk with lakes and water side walkways.

Baptism (July 6th 2014) Baptism
Today, July 6th 2004 at St. Dominic Savio Catholic Church Three of our grandchildren, Anthony and Luca Chirco, Julian Choi along with Gianna Saab received the Sacrament of Baptism, the first of the seven sacraments. It is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation, the other two being the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Once baptized, they became members of the Church. Anthony’s godparents are Mike and Valeria, Julian’s godparents, Vitina and Mark and Luca’s Deanna and Mike. Both Mayra and I are elated to have all four of our grand-children baptized and look forward to share with them our religion, culture, family and traditions. God, parents and time permitting.

Science Center (June 8th 2014) Long Beach
I haven’t had the oppurtunity to visit Pompeii, so when the California Science Center decided to bring some of the itams found there to Los Angeles, I along with Mayra, Carola, George, Elizabeth and John decided to go and visit this very interesting display. The exhibit showed how a large population center with an fully functional economic and social system can within hours, simply be destroyed by natural events completely beyond control of man. Very sobering. Researchers believe that the town was founded in the seventh or sixth century BC and was captured by the Romans in 80 BC. By the time of its destruction, 160 years later, its population was probably approximately 20,000, and the city had a complex water system, an amphitheatre, gymnasium and a port.

Long Beach (June 8th 2014) Long Beach
Today I went on a beautiful and fun boat ride to Long Beach with Mark and Anthony. Once at the shoreline Village we walked around to see some of the wild life, pellicans, sea gulls, crabs etc.. We also got to see some fantastic views of the Long Beach Harbor and had fun walking around every tree I and Anthony encountered along the way to the lighthouse. Thank Anthony for taking me along on this trip and for wanting to be n’coddu with me,

Michele and Sola at Sleeping Bear Dunes during Memorial Day Weekend, May 26 2014
Sleeping Bear Dunes This was our first night up north in Sleeping Bear Dunes. We decided to drive south to the nearest beach and watch the sun set together. Michele said the sand was as soft and white as the beaches on the west coast and Sicily, and just as clear. We never would have thought. Discoveries can be a pleasant surprise. Michele found a hidden treasure trove of Morel mushrooms. Morels are the truffles of Michigan; delicacies that sprout...

Orlando, Florida (April 1st to April 4th 2014) LACAS2014
This one trip we went on was primarily requested by Mark who was traveling to Orlando on business related matters and asked if we wanted to tag along. Shanna also seemed happy to have two old, somewhat senile and physically challenged people come along so we decided to join them. Orlando was never one of the places I think of when contemplating a trip. They have Disney World, and we have Disneyland, they have Sea World, and we have Sea World. I found however that Orlando and every place we went less congested than the amusement parks in California and a lot roomier. What both Mayra (mom) and I loved about the trip was spending four fun and relaxing days with Anthony and my favorite daughter-in-law Shanna, hoops, I almost forgot, and Mark A. my favorite youngest son.

Los Angeles County Air Show. March 22nd 2014 Los Angeles Air Show
Today, Thanks to an invitation by my son-in-law David, we went to the Los Angeles Air Show to see a fantastic show by a variety of interesting planes including a presentation by the famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels. The show was held at Fox Field in Lancaster, CA.
Adrian was undestandably mesmerized by the fast planes and wanted to take one home, two actually, which he did, smaller than the real ones but effective in taking his mind off dinosaurs and tyrannosaurus rex, for a while at least. Thanks David, we all had a great Time.

Sicilia (January 20th to February 2nd 2014) Sicilia 2014
I'm again in Sicily this time to coplete some matters started on my previous trip, that finished I no longer have any material attachment to Cinisi nor to Sicily. What remains is an emotional attachment to a place that was home to me and many generations before me to a place that has seen many changes since 1962 when I first left with my family. Sicily still is a beautiful place but is no longer a part of my present.
I hope to someday return to Sicily and show my grandchildren what a beautiful place Sicily is and what a rich culture and history it has, time and health permitting.
