San Antonio (August 12th 2015) Alec Choi
This year for our anniversary we decided to visit San Antonio TX, a bit warm at 101 degrees but we went, undeterred. Our trip started with Mike taking us to the airport at 5:30am. Thanks Mike.
We boarded AA flight AA5194 and took off at 7:30 and arrived at SAT at 11:50 am. Once checked in at the Westin Riverwalk we started our tour of the area with lunch on the Riverwalk, a nice walk on the river walk and a visit to the Alamo, dinner and that was it for our first day. Day 2, Monday was breakfast at Denny’s and some time at the Riverside shopping center where we went to see, at the IMAX Theater, a documentary on the battle of the Alamo, I’ve seen it before but still interesting. We also visited Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks, home to some incredibly life-like wax figures, also fun and interesting.
Yesterday we received a very welcomed invitation from Adriana Castedo telling us she was going to ptake us to lunch today and true to her word, she was at our hotel at 11:oo am. Adriana drove us to a very luxurious Brazilian restauran Chama Gaucha, for a fantastic meal followed by a surprise ammiversary desert for me and Mayra.
Adriana made this one of the most plesant part of this trip, rearranged her very busy sckedule to spend some time with us and make our stay more memorable. Did I mention that she would not even let us cover the tip? Thank you Adriana and thank you Kathy.

Alec Choi (June 29th 2015) Alec Choi
Congrats to David and Deanna on the arrival of the newest member of our family. On June 29th at about 3:45 am Deanna gave birth to a healthy, beautiful 7lb 13oz baby boy, mom and baby are doing fine. At about 1:00 am we got a call from David informing us that they where on their way to San Antonio Regional Hospital, we arrived about an hour later and found Deanna pacing outside since she didn’t think Alec was yet ready to come out. After about an hour she decided to go in and the baby was born about 45 minutes later, That is waiting until the last minute, an that also is her mothers style. Anyway congrats to parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts.

Grand Canyon (May 31st 2015) Easter 2015
After almost nine years we, Mayra and I are revisiting the Grand Canyon in Arizona, 446 km long, up to 29 km wide and a depth of over 1,857 meters.
The Colorado River cut this channel through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted.
The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540. As of today we, Mayra and I along with a few other people are the latest, not the last. Bla Bla Bla.
We left Downey May 31st at 9:00 6:30 am and are looking forward to a few days of fun, relaxing sight seeing. On the second day of our visit to the Grand Canyon, I decided to take a hike down off the rim and explore. Getting below the rim was the way to truly see the magical colors, depth and splendors of the Grand Canyon. our previous trips tp the Grand Canyon comprised of driving to the lookout points and walking to the well paved viewing areas, all on the rim of the Canyon.
Although I’ve seen some families with children hiking below the rim, I personally did not feel comfortable taking the trail down, it’s incredibly steep, no handrail protection. One slip and down you go. I decided to do a short 1.8 mile hike on the South Kaibab trail to the OOH AHH Lookout Point none the less. Mayra and I took the shuttle to the Kaibab point where we started our descent into the canyon. If the start of the hike was an indication, the hike was going to be difficult, steep and slippery. Mayra decided to wait at the rim, I went ahead amd found that after about tem minutes it started leveling off somewat, anyway it seemed easier, I was aware however that the 700 ft track back to the rim was going to be difficult, I was undeterred. the trip down is beautiful and I kept stopping to take pictures. I soon realized that this is a fantastic way to see the Grand Canyon the position of the sun and clouds make for a constant chane to the scenary. I’m only sorry that I’m not in shape to take the entire trail to the bottom of the canyon. I was proud to have made it as far as I did but I did not realize how exhausted I must have looked on the way up until a coule of girls, on the way down, asked if I was ok and if I wanted something to drink. I made it back up wher Mayra was waiting while chatting with a couple of visitors.
I do plan to return maybe for another hike, same lenght or shorter.

Easter Celebration (April 5th 2015) Easter 2015
After attending Easter Mass at St. Raymond Church in Downney we had dinner with friends and family at our home. With the exception of Mike, who was at a campsite helping with school kids, the whole family was here. Kids all had great fun looking for Easter eggs all over the yard.

Auto Show, Pomona Fairplex (January 25th 2015) Auto Show 2015
Last time at the Pomona Fairpkax with Mark, Shanna, Deanna, Adrian and Anthony was to see some impressive mechanized dinosaurs, they looked impressive. Today I was taken there again by my friend Bob Arrowsmith on his beautiful 2006 white Corvette to see some equally impressive machines, this time the four wheeled ones from the 1930s to the present. A fun exhausting day of walking an admiring cars I remember from the sixties and some new ones like the Ford Mustang. That would be nice to drive, hummm let me think about this one.
