Niña December 29th 2008)
Sometimes your main destination is not the the most interesting part of your trip. This was the case when we, along with Jon and Ada Pebley went to see the Aquarium of the Pacific and on the way there we passed by what turned out to be an identical copy of the famed Niña, Built by the Colombus Foundation and now manned by an all volunteer crew and sailing all along the Pacific and Atlantic coast of the Americas.

Although he is past the age where he should want a (birthday party), It was a great opportunity to get together with family and friends. It would have been nice to have everyone here but for different reasons, space being one of them, many people that I consider close where not present, my son Mike for one, was down fighting a cold. Here are some pictures of the event

Happy Thanksgiving to EVERYONE!!

Today we all traveled to Michigan, to the home of my sister in law, Fanny to celebrate with her family Thanksgiving day and meet for the first time Salvo, the newest addition to the Chirco family, and first born of Valeria and John Perkins. Both parents are wonderful, beautiful people so I was not surprised at the fact that the baby is as cute as this picture clearly demonstrates. Congratulations to Valeria and John and also to the grandparents, uncle, aunts, great uncle (Zio Nino) etc.., they all have reason to be proud. Salvo Davide was 7 lbs. 12 oz. 20.5 inches. Congratulations also to the great grandmother, Vita Chirco, her first Great grandchild and grandchild of her son Chirco Salvatore.(Totó).

After conquering some of the highest mountain peacks in Southern California, including Big Bear, Mount Jacinto in Palm Springs and Mountain High, in some cases many feet above where the Avalon or rotating arial tramway would take us, we now are on our way with our friends Mark and Elisabeth to Mount Whitney to see how far past the Mount Whitney Portal we can get. Along the way we stopped to see Red Rock Canyon, The fantastic scenary along HWY 395 of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Mono Lake with it's many interesting formations of Tufa towers.

The Reagan Library (M.K.N.) (September 21st 2008)
We are on our way to spend the day at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley With Mayra, Marinella -Giuseppe JR, This will be his first trip of a cultural nature- Giuseppe senior, and Marina. Last time there I said that I would be back and I am glad to be going again with Marinella. I think she will be glad she went even if her condition will not permit a long stay.
Among the many historical itams at the Library and the most important was the original Emancipation Proclamation where On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed, that all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State…shall be then, thenceforward… forever free.

History Trip (A.C.N.) (August 23rd 2008)
Today we are in what promises to be one of the most interesting, enjoyable and exhausting sightseeing trips we have been on in quite some time. We are part of a group, mostly Cubans who also enjoy traveling and sight seeing. The first place we visited was New York, The Big Apple, where we saw the site of the world Trade Center, Wall Street, Trinity Church, Federal Hall, Empire State Building, U.N. Headquarters, Statue of Liberty, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art ( the MET ), and St. Patrick Cathedral. In Philadelphia we visited the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and Old Congress. Monday the 25th we went to Washington D.C. where we visited the Capitol Hill, Ford Theater, The White Howse, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial an the Smithsonian Institute. What? What about the Washington Monument, Monticello, Mount Vernon? I think we have a full plate and there is no room for more, To see whashington D.C. properly one would require a lot more than one day, I doubt a month would be enough. Today, August 26th we visited Harrisburg, Hershey's Chocolate World, the Corning Glass Museum, in Corning, NY. We next crossed ino Canada, passports at hand, for a view of Niagara Falls and other sights north of the border including Skylon Tower and a night tour of the falls area.
Day Five, our second day in Canada, we went on to visit Ontario's Parliament building, the University of Toronto, City hall, CN Tower, and the Sky Dome Sports complex. From there we went on see 1000 Islands then Ottawa, Montreal and back across the border and on to Boston where we visited Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, The Old State House, The USS Constitution, Harvard University" and the Massachusets Institute of Technology.

I would like to thank the family of Domenica and Liam for a most enjoyable evening at their beautiful home in Whittier, CA. The company was friendly and the food was great, the entire family went to great length to make sure that everyone had a good time. They succeeded. The girls, Antonette and Mary both gracious, happy and beautiful girls also helped everyone feel at home, after the brief conversation I had with them I can understand the pride of the parents for these girls.

One of the most enjoyable events we have attended was the Sicilian Festival in San Diego, it has been held yearly in San Diego for the past fifteen Years. There was lots of happy folkloric music, lots of people having fun, plenty of food and many shops offering the usual Sicilian crafts. We where met at the festival by Massimo and Bertha Degli Eredi, we also met Mike and Josephine Russo, our cousins, and some of their friends also in San Diego for the festival. We where happy to see also Domenica and daughters Antonette and Mary, they are happy beautiful people and we look forward to seeing them again soon.

(A.C.N.) May 10th 2008)
Although the date is past, and I do not particularly enjoy birthday parties/dinners, especially mine, Mayra does not share my view on the matter nor does she particularly care for it, and so she went ahead and made all the preparations, invited guests, ordered food and accepted help from friends and relatives. Nancy Ramos helped with much of the pre dinner preparations and the entertainment (she is a gifted pianist). Marina and Giuseppe donated chairs and tables along with salads and grilled "melengiane". My original reservations about having a "party" to celebrate my turning old "60" completely vanished once family and friends started arriving. I had a great time as did everyone present. Thanks Mayra for the hard work you went through to make this day a happy and memorable event, it was and I appreciate everything you did, I always do even if at times I do no show it.
PS: Congratulations to Giovanna and Alex Saab who today announced that they are expecting. It will be a nice new addition to the Saab family and a big change in the Gigi/Alex Family.

We look forward to the arrival of the babies and wish both mothers and babies well...And the fathers too. Mmmmmm, I wonder? are we going to have boys or girls? who will they look like? What about the names? This is going to be interesting, We'll just have to wait and see.

Deanna I am happy today to be present at a dermatology presentation along with about fifty or so other young people from the Los Angeles area. The main and only speaker was Deanna M. Chirco, PA-C. I as a unbiased observer was truly impressed by the professional conduct of the presentation, the knowledgeble way that the material was presented and the questions answered. Deanna has shown character and a personality that must make her dad truly proud. She graduated with a Bachelor's in science from U.C.I in 1996 after which she completed her training at Charles Drew University in L.A.. Deanna has specialized in Dermatology and regularly attends conferences to stay updated on the latest in Dermatology procedures. She has treated thousands of patients in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. She is an expert in Botox® injections, Restylane® injections, laser treatment and pulsed light technologies.

The Los Angeles Marathon(M.A.C.N.)
(March 2nd 2008)

The Los Angeles Marathon (LA Marathon) is run through the streets of the City of Angels every year on the first Sunday of March. In 2008 the magic date was March 2. Helping to make this years event an unprecidented and successful marathon was the participation of attorneys Mark Anthony Chirco of Reed Smith and Alex Saab of Saab Law who was also accompanied by his beautiful wife Giovanna Saab. Runners pass several LA landmarks and go through a number of the city’s diverse neighbourhoods. The course starts off with a pretty steep incline for the first 3 km; then it’s mostly downhill till the 22nd kilometre where a slight but steady incline all the way to the finish line starts. Along the way, ten Entertainment Centers will provide music, dancing and other entertainment to keep spirits up, runners going and spectators staying. A total of 1,000,000 spectators are expected to line the course and celebrate the 26,000 runners at the finish area. The cheering may even be personal, as the runners’ bibs will have their names printed on them. The race day in March will also feature an early morning 5K run/walk – the start at 6:30 am allows for really serious marathoners to use this as a warm-up for the 42 km.
